Originally from Barcelona, Anna arrived in Belgium in the midst of the pandemic, a time of intense solitude that gave birth to the music/video project AN NA—a fusion of emotions expressed through noise, screams, and melodic caresses.
Later, she found the perfect companions: Charlie, the man who growls behind the drums, and Kasper, the shaman who opens all your chakras with his bass mantras.
Anna distorts her being to embark on a new journey, allowing her to express herself while creating distance from her own identity. This transformation is reflected in the way she now spells her name:
The capital letters grant us the freedom to interpret them. Is the inverted "A" a head or a tail?
The "N"s trace a continuous line cutting through the core. The disorder of the name creates a new symmetrical structure, almost like a diamond.
Enter The WADA. Charlie’s drumming growls and Kasper’s shamanic bass mantras joyfully merge with Anna’s world in a small studio in Forest, April 2023. Thus, a band is born, embracing the New Wave spirit, even No Wave, open to experimenting with all kinds of eclectic changes.
Don't look for meaning in The WADA—its very lack of meaning is what makes it perfectly meaningful. That said, The WADA are deeply rooted in Brussels culture, and phonetically, “WADA” in Brussels dialect means “What do you mean?”
So we remain in that uncertainty—seeking empathy means constantly questioning ourselves to embrace new perspectives beyond our own.
